Hickey Freeman’s Winterscape Presentation

Set in the very luxurious, private home that makes up 214 Lafayette Street, Hickey Freeman presented his newest collection “Winterscape.” Upon entering the property—constructed in the 1890s as one of New York’s first power substations—we were greeted by a large glass partial-wall, exposing the view of the home’s pool from underneath. Splashing inside was Columbia University men’s water polo team, who didn’t seem to mind being spied on as they played, and neither did the rest of the houseguests.

The “Winterscape” was broken into three themes—Highlands, The Strand, and Greenwich, spread out over different parts of the home’s spacious levels.

Highlands offered formal attire for the man who appreciates frost crackling under his boot, and the effortless textures and patterns for day and night. For this, the Hickey Freeman men were dressed to the nines and lined up in front of the home’s enormous fireplace mantle, the centerpiece of a cozy library living room fit for the man of the manor.

Tucked to the right, just before the sprawling open bar and staircase, The Strand looks were professional and classy. This collection offered a line of power suits with a contemporary spin for the men of downtown Manhattan. Forest green and indigo make up the stripes, decos, and textured grounds of the bespoke collection—and a celebratory note for the new made-to-measure store that will soon open on Vesey Street.

Greenwich could be found on the home’s upper level, and was a collection made from rare fabrics and modern designs. The low-ceiling room was decorated with rich woods, a large cowhide rug, and leather accessories. Colors of Ivory subtly accented the pieces of Yangir cashmere, moleskin, Vicuna, and corduroy materials.

After climbing another level to get an aerial view of the event taking place, we got a better glimpse of each Winterscape. Over there was the man of the Highlands manor, sitting by the fireplace, basking in his Bordeaux lambswool; over here was the man of The Strand, standing powerful in his bespoke power suit with a pocket square and slick tie; and just behind, the luxurious man of Greenwich sitting comfortably in his dare-to-wear prized Ivory cashmere, sunglasses, and headphones. The presentation last week begged the question, “Which Winterscape are you?”
