Louis Vuitton collaborated with Tyler, The Creator for the Spring 2024 Men’s Capsule Collection, which launched this week. The collection marks a significant milestone as Pharrell Williams’s inaugural capsule collaboration as Louis Vuitton’s Men’s Creative Director. The inspiration behind it all is a blend of Tyler, The Creator’s distinctive preppy sophistication and the the refined, dandy aesthetic Williams has infused into the maison. The collaboration builds on the ongoing relationship between Louis Vuitton and Tyler, The Creator, who most recently composed the soundtrack for its Fall/Winter 2022 Men’s Show.
“Tyler has been my close friend and collaborator for years and we’ve always connected on music and design,” Williams said. “This collaboration is unique to Louis Vuitton because it’s a natural extension of our LVERS philosophy, building on our network of incredible artists and creatives. There are so many elements specific to Tyler built into these pieces and it’s been inspiring to see him hone in on his craft and collaborate with him for this Spring collection.”
Tyler, The Creator Presents: The Craggy Monogram
At the foundation of the collection is Tyler, The Creator’s hand-drawn reimagining of the heritage Louis Vuitton monogram with the Craggy Monogram. The Craggy Monogram features representations of daisies and Airedale Terriers, recurring motifs in Tyler, The Creator’s visual universe. The uneven, hand-drawn shapes of the monogram evoke the preppy jubilance of the season’s collection.
“My main focus was making things I would wear all the time,” Tyler, The Creator said of his creative process. “I dress the same in a meeting as I do a performance or grocery store trip, so hand drawing the monogram felt like the perfect balance to me. The chessboard is one of the greatest things I’ve made and is definitely my favorite thing from the collection.”
Evoking the Patisserie Decadence
Along with the Craggy Monogram, a signature characteristic of the Maison’s latest collection is its colorways of creamy chocolate, vanilla, and pastel colors that evoke the sensual experience of a patisserie. Together, these motifs figure throughout the collection’s playful medley of transitional silhouettes, including preppy down jackets, denim jackets, dungarees, raincoats, collegiate knitwear, golf-inspired pieces, a travel chessboard, and more.
The collection also features a number of unique accessories. Highlights include a Craggy Monogram cereal bowl with a matching spoon, golf accessories—including a golf ball kit, headcovers, a golf box, and towels— rendered in a pale green Damier pattern, and a dog carrier.
An Exclusive Rodeo Drive Springtime Activation
On March 21, Louis Vuitton celebrated the launch of the capsule collection with an evening event at its Rodeo Drive boutique in Los Angeles with music from DJ Blondie Beach. The space has been transformed into an exclusive springtime activation inspired by the creative vision of Tyler, The Creator—an LA native—featuring a 15-foot-tall Airedale, a mid-air propeller plane, and a soap box derby car derived from an iconic Louis Vuitton trunk, covered in the Craggy Monogram. Notable guests included Tyler, The Creator, Donald Glover, Barry Keoghan, Steven Yeun, and Jaden Smith.
