The Paris 2024 Olympic opening ceremony took place July 26 showcasing the partnership between the games and Louis Vuitton. The announcement of the partnership was released earlier this year detailing the extraordinary medal trunks Louis Vuitton designed for the athletes to hold their achievements. During the ceremony Louis Vuitton performed a sequence at the Seine that featured its iconic trunks trunks, followed by Men’s Creative Director Pharrell Williams placing the symbolic torch in the trunk to start the games.
Louis Vuitton at the Paris 2024 Olympics
During the Opening Ceremony in Paris on Friday, Louis Vuitton performed a remarkable tribute that was heartfelt to the values and spirit the games portray in excellence, creativity, and performance. A dance sequence featuring Louis Vuitton’s iconic trunks captured the essence of the maison’s spirit of travel, creativity, and historic connection to Paris while paying tribute to the commitment to the world of sport. It celebrated this year’s Olympics and the house’s new designs for the Paris 2024 Olympic symbols, torches, and medals.
The scene began on the top of the Louis Vuitton rooftop at Pont Neuf where a masked torch bearer crossed the maison depicting the detailing of the craft behind the Medal Trunks. The emotion within this performance followed into the rooftop of Hôtel de Ville where dancer, Guillaume Diop, enacted the journey the athletes endure throughout the Olympics. Diop was dressed in Spring/Summer 2025 Louis Vuitton collections, wearing the brown pleated Bermuda shorts combined with a subtly sequined beige tank top reflecting relaxed elegance.
The performance concluded with talented artists Rim’K, an iconic Franco-Algerian rapper and producer, and Shaheem Sanchez, an American dancer. The two icons performed in their fields to historic French culture wearing Autumn/Winter Louis Vuitton 2025. Rim’K sang a tableau that demonstrated the dynamic relationship in France through the combination of their history in sports and the arts. He wore a black-and-red checkered shearling jacket with pearl buttons, a white t-shirt, flared black jersey trousers, and a pair of LV Trainers in black Monogram denim and white leather. Sanchez interpreted Supernature, a hit from Cerrone, a French musician from the 1970s. In his staging, Sanchez wore a double-breasted, beaded copper suit, a matching tank top, and a pair of patinated copper LV Trainers.
Louis Vuitton’s 2024 Olympic Medal Trunks
The 2024 Olympic Medal Trunks designed by Louis Vuitton were inspired by the house’s 1850s Louis Vuitton trunks. The trunks are covered in the signature LV Monogram canvas and feature brass corners and closures. The interior of the trunk is inspired by Louis Vuitton’s Malle Coiffeuse and has a central section with two hinged “wings” that open to reveal drawers designed to hold 468 medals. Additionally the interior is entirely lined with black matt leather and features subtle embossed logos and serigraphy of both the Olympic and Paralympic 2024 in Paris. The trunks are to symbolize the hopes and dreams of the athletes that honor their country to provide a sanctuary for their prize.
Louis Vuitton Creative Director, Pharrell Williams, Carries Olympic Torch
Pharrell Williams, Louis Vuitton Men’s Creative Director, had the honor of being the final torch bearer at the 2024 Olympic Games ceremony, symbolizing and unifying the world of athletes together. Williams carried the Olympic Flame to the top of the Basilica of Saint-Denis in the Paris region, where he raised the torch in the air to the captivated audience before placing it inside the Louis Vuitton Torch Trunk. The Paris 2024 Olympic Torches went through 10,000 torch bearers before reaching its final relay to Williams which stood as a testament to a mission accomplished collectively with honor and commitment to the significance of the games beginning.
The Louis Vuitton Torch Trunks are expressions of the 170 years of savoir-faire in the Art of Travel, are special cases to protect and present the Paris 2024 Olympic Torches which were designed by French designer, Mathieu Lehanneur. The torch trunks have a rounded niche in the base and lid that ensures the troches travel safely with the interior in matte black leather for protection. The niche inside the hinged lid reveals an embossed “Paris 2024” logo. The exterior of the trunks was inspired by the signature Damier canvas created in 1888, with traditional brass clasps and protective corners.
