Last night on the Italian island of Ischia, Max Mara presented its Resort 2022 collection surrounded by close friends of the brand. It was the late American novelist Truman Capote‘s time spent in Ischia, which he detailed in Local Color, that provided immense inspiration for the new line.
For his third book, released in 1950, the author penned notes about the people and places he had lived and visited. Romantic and colorful, the tales made their way into the fashion house’s latest line, which began in earthy tones and finished in pops of pink and stark black.
For Resort 2022, we saw Max Mara’s attention to detail play out in the usual suspects—from structured silhouette to fine materials. But a surprise we welcomed was the contemporary takes on accessories, including leather headbands, new woven basket bags, oversized chain bracelets, and espadrilles that tied high on the ankle with strips of leather.
At first, nude looks led the mind to a serene place, bringing us to the coast with short-sleeved trench coat dresses and large handbags that could fit all the summer necessities. Bright pink and poppy red pieces came next, some greeting the eye to a new all-over floral pattern that popped with contrast and creativity. In the same hues, trousers in pink were paired with red fuzzy bombers, with shapely sunglasses and the prized leather bandanas adorned above.
V-neck shirt dresses with faux collars, deep blazer pockets, rolled quarter-length sleeves, and side-slits floated by in an array of colors; and monochrome outfits, like a black skirt paired with a buttoned-up jacket and lace-up espadrilles contrasted nicely with its paired accessory—a light wicker creel bag with a wide black leather handle.
Created specifically for the collection’s debut was a film by Ginevra Elkann, the granddaughter of the famed art collector and socialite Marella Agnelli, that visually showcased the strength of Resort 2022.
