Bold colors and roomy silhouettes are among the many details that changing the world of menswear. Below you’ll find our Spring/Summer 2019 collection highlights from brands like Missoni, Fendi, and more.
Missoni followed the path of the first Paris-Dakar Rally from the 1970s, finding inspiration in the diverging terrains and cultures of the dynamic trek. The house’s vibrant reputation was extended through the new SS19 collection, which featured colorful knits and mix-matched patterns, as well as several leather pieces and items that were perfect for layering like a lightweight mesh sweater and a knitted checkered short-sleeve shirt.
Fendi played with the dark side, presenting a collection full of rich earth tones and moody colors like black, deep red, mustard, and brown. Encouraging opposites to collide, the collection featured daring looks like an androgynous kilt paired with a fanny pack, running sandals, and a plaid overcoat.
Prada returned to the basics, presenting its new men’s collection in the Cartesian space designed by AMO in Via Fogazzaro. While the collection was surely notable, the star of the event was the elegant, industrial interior of the venue. Complete with quintessential high ceilings and pillars, the space was filled with re-editions of the clear inflatable stools designed by Verpan Panton in the 1960s, paired with purple lighting, giving the venue a psychedelic feel.
Inspired by a mélange of sporting events—everything from cricket to boxing—Marni’s SS19 presentation served as the “Imagination Olympics,” where anyone could be a player without the confinements of rules. Each piece in the collection was fashioned after different sportswear staples. We caught sight of a long tank top paired with oversized shorts, reminiscent of basketball attire, and a yellow sleeveless shirt with shoulder padding, similar to a football uniform.
