For fall/winter 2017, Missoni’s creative director Angela Missoni has made it a point to communicate the women of today—the individuals who confront all of today’s contemporary challenges head on.
Committed to the many modern day responsibilities for a woman, Missoni put forth pieces where negative and positive space work together. Knitwear with partially-knitted motifs complement overlaps of stripes and checks, and pairings of yellow, orange, violet, red, and turquoise. Ribbed and pleated fabrics move through strips of colors, similarly like an abstract painting. Chunky necklaces were mixed among fur boas, and skinny and frayed scarves. Rounded and pointy-toed shoes came in the form of booties, closed-toed pumps, peep-toed sandals with heels and a dainty cut-out and ankle-strap.
Loose-fitting cardigans, long and short, reigned alongside sweaters and sweater dresses, many with the brand’s iconic zig-zags, but others with playful hearts or the female gender symbol—♀. For the finale, we watched Missoni women parade down the runway with this year’s unexpected fashion star—the pink hat with cat ears to defy a remark made by Donald Trump. The thin new hat is made up of delicate zig-zags, in an array of pink shades, with two small flaps of fabric that perk up to make ears.
With this collection, the versatile woman of today is celebrated and accentuated, and she has something to wear to show for it.
