In February during New York Fashion Week, we attended Pamella Roland’s dazzling Fall/Winter 2018 runway show. There, we gained sight on her inspirations for the season—royal jewels, and the history and architecture that makes up Prague’s Old Town legacy. In the collection, we saw metallic threadwork, crystal appliqués, sweeps of feathers, baroque motifs, jacquards, and jewel-tone hues galore.
To hear more about the brand’s beginning and the Pamella Roland-wearing woman, we caught up with the designer.
WHITEWALL: Tell us a bit about your starting point for Fall/Winter 2018.
PAMELLA ROLAND: Inspiration for new collections tends to always come from my travels. I’ll spend time in a new city or a familiar one, experiencing the sights and sounds and then it makes me fall in love with the place and I design looks with it in mind.
WW: The collection drew heavy inspiration from Prague. What about the city was inspiring to you?
PR: Prague is so full of history and beauty. It was the energy and heart of the city that attracted me to it the most! It’s simply beautiful from start to finish.
WW: What is your favorite piece in this new collection?
PR: It’s hard to pick one favorite. Each look is very unique and memorable. I love them all!
WW: How did being inducted into the CFDA in 2010 shape you?
PR: Being a part of the CFDA is a dream and goal for any designer. That moment was definitely a highlight and pinnacle of my career.
WW: What was your first design like?
PR: I remember designing my first dress and literally thinking, “What would I want to wear?” I made a conscious decision to always design with real woman in mind.
WW: Who is the quintessential Pamella Roland wearer?
PR: I think the beauty of Pamella Roland is that our clothes work for every woman. I pride myself in knowing that any woman could step out in a dress I designed and look and feel confident.
