Pierre Hardy Looks to Lichtenstein in “Scoubi Pop”

By Caroline Wall

February 10, 2016

This spring, Pierre Hardy brings confident sensuality to the table with their upcoming collection, Scoubi Pop. The series, drawing inspiration from Roy Lichtenstein, features the artist’s signature bold outlines and striking colors, evoking ironic whimsy with every piece. Brightly colored suede, leather, and puffs of fur accent this flamboyant accessories line, which includes transparent totes, wrap-around heels, and a handbag/sandal duo featuring the collection’s namesake: the “scoubidou” knot.

Perhaps the most iconic moment in the collection is the “Oh Roy” pumps, flaunting heavy-lashed eyes characteristic of Lichtenstein’s ladies, enlarged to disrupt the shoe’s silhouette. These sorts of drôle disruptions appear throughout the collection, from the overhanging heel of the “Arp” sandals to the bright pink sashes of the “Baskedrille” sneakers. These unexpected flourishes create a young, flirty collection fitting of the label “Pop.”
