Prabal Gurung looked to his Nepalese roots for inspiration in his spring/summer 2016 collection. Models with hair styled in a sleek middle-part graced the runway in an abundance of fiery colors. Paired with the copper, orange, and yellow-toned flowy silhouettes, were cut-out pumps and booties. Some of the more stunning pieces were the hand-embroidered Swarovski crystal, Holi Powder, brushstroke-designed chiffon dresses and tops that created a pleasant balance against the bold colors, adding a touch of intricacy.
Between the collection and group of orange-robed monks opening the show with prayers, it was apparent that this season was dedicated to the land where he grew up. Gurung used the show to bring further attention to the devastating earthquake that struck Nepal in April of this year. As bright silk and chiffon gowns made up the last looks of the show, a feeling of tranquility and hope for the future of Nepal was left in the air.
