Ralph Lauren Offers Women an Exotic Oasis

By Eliza Jordan

February 21, 2017

Last Wednesday during New York Fashion Week, Ralph Lauren transformed its Madison Avenue flagship store into a botanical oasis. On the first and second floors, the brand hosted its fall/winter 2017 collection runway show, with a fully immersive installation of orchids, air plants, rich moss, and wild vines taking over every wall.

“My February 2017 collection was inspired by a nomadic spirit, an exotic sophistication contrasting pure shapes with rustic textures, shades of the desert and burnished gold, and artful, one-of-a-kind jewelry. It embodies the spirit of the woman I design for, always seeking a style that is bold and personal,” said Ralph Lauren. “I have always wanted a woman to fall in love with my collection and say, ‘I can’t wait to wear it’—and now she doesn’t have to. We are meeting her needs with even greater energy than before and delivering impeccable craftsmanship and luxury to her instantly.”

The collection, available immediately online and in flagship stores worldwide, mixes the house’s sophisticated style with an exotic edge of reserved shades and patterns on silk. Slinky silhouettes were seen spiced-up with a handful of cutouts, gold accessories, and leopard prints and crocodile prints on bags, too. Floor-length button-down silk kimonos complemented off-the-shoulder gowns. There were some edgy numbers, too, like a shimmering dark gold scallop-tiered skirt, dressed with a distressed brown and black leather jacket.
