Self Rule: Rachel Roy’s Female Empowerment Platform

By Eliza Jordan

March 3, 2015

Last month, womenswear designer Rachel Roy hosted a lunch at the SoHo Mondrian in celebration of her women empowerment platform “Self Rule.” In conjunction with “Kindness is Always Fashionable”—a platform she launched several seasons ago to give back to a variety of organizations in many ways through fashion—”Self Rule” is about living life, as Roy states, on your own terms.

“Life is about living it on your terms, with your own rules. Free will with self-rule, this is what life is. I hope to encourage young people to be brace enough to live on their own terms,” said Roy.

With the April launch of a graphic tee at Macy’s and Macys.com, the entirety of its net proceeds will be donated to Step Up, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to allowing inspiring women to inspire girls. The “Self Rule” platform for women is pushing for empowerment through employment. It is geared toward creating global recognition for sustainable employment to accomplish great change for good.
