Alexandre Vauthier added flair and sensuality to Paris Couture this week with his fall/winter 2017-18 haute couture collection.
Vauthier honed is eye for fabric and cut while working with Thierry Mugler and Jean Paul Gaultier, before founding his eponymous collection in 2009. Since then, he’s gained a following that includes Beyoncé, Rihanna, Rosie-Huntington-Whiteley, Bella Hadid, Janelle Monae, Gwen Stefani, Kate Bosworth, Ciara, Cara Delevingne, and Kendall Jenner.
This season’s collection stuck with looks in sleek head-to-toe black, with moments of metallic, purple, white, and gold. Textures were glossy, gauzy, and shiny, complemented by minimal pattern (we saw only a couple instances of an understated black and white polka dot). Shoulder—when covered—were angular and distinct. Ruffles and ruching were oversized. Belts cinched with an overt tie. Footwear was bold, whether shimmering metallic or furred and feathered.
