The Rochas spring/summer 2017 collection called to mind the color in Erwin Blumenfeld‘s photos, and the drama of Cecil Beaton‘s black-and-white work from the forties and fifties.
The collection mixed and matched that inspiration, not just in colors like yellow, madarin, lilac, green, and sky blue, but in texture, too, with draping, pleating, ruching, and ruffles. Dreamy silhouettes of tulle, lace, and plumeti flounced alongside dresses in velvet, brocade, and jacquard. There was movement, there was volume, and many moments of surprising pairings.
Looks were finished often with over-the-elbow gloves, wooden platform slingbacks, and an “R” embroidered on the upper left chest of a view crewnecks and sweaters calling to mind a letterman jacket. The nod to nostalgia of the fifties school dance felt fresh and light.
