French fashion brand Sonia Rykiel opened its first North American free-standing boutique this week on Madison Avenue. It joins the design house’s spread of worldwide locations in Russia, Saudi Arabia, and Hong Kong.
Inspired by Parisian literary cafés, the New York store pops with bright lacquer walls, black-and-white tiled floors, and bookshelves filled with over 15,000 volumes of French literature. Custom carpeting from Saraiva features a flirty pattern of lips, cigarettes, and books, while cherry-red mannequins pose in the windows. The flagship further tickles customers with a custom scent of rosewater, mandarin, and jasmine, adding a sweet touch to the 2,000 square foot space showcasing a collection of ready-to-wear, accessories, leather goods, and footwear.
