The atmosphere at Prada’s spring/summer 2016 show was something rather unordinary. Models made their way through a runway that could double as an underground lair straight out of a sci-fi movie: Fiberglass sheets hung from the ceiling, with iridescent lighting beaming through it. The space, meant to “manipulate the proportions and perspectives” and to “investigate the perception of continuous space,” served as the perfect backdrop to a collection that altered our perception of time.
Metallic lips and slicked-back hair gave off futuristic vibes, while the structured overcoats, plaids and tweeds sent us back to a sixties mod style. Pom-pom earrings made us feel like we were watching a character in an old, futuristic film.

In much darker colors than expected for spring, Prada also played with the contrast of texture structure, masculine and feminine, and mixing old and new. The collection moved from boxy jackets, to softer sheers, suedes to silks, and from stripes to floral embellishments. For a season that took so much from the past, it still spoke to a new outlook for spring.
