The momentous ninth edition of the LVMH Prize for Young Fashion Designers took place this week on June 2 at Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris. Notably in attendance were several LVMH artistic directors: Jonathan Anderson, Maria Grazia Chiuri, Nicolas Ghesquière, Kim Jones, Stella McCartney, Nigo, Silvia Venturini Fendi, Delphine Arnault, Jean-Paul Claverie and Sidney Toledano. The prize propels youthful and diverse talent that is fundamental to the energy and spirit of the fashion ecosystem.
The jury awarded the LVMH Prize to British designer Steven Stokey Daley, 25. Actress Cate Blanchett presented the prize during the ceremony. Two young, American designers were each awarded the Karl Lagerfeld Prize: Eli Russell Linnetz, 31, and Idris Balogun, 29. Olympic ski champion Eileen Gu presented the Karl Lagerfeld Prizes.
“I am very happy that Steven Stokey Daley has won the LVMH 2022 Prize for his brand S.S. Daley. He appropriates the codes of tailoring by playing with the clichés of upper-class English culture,” said Delphine Arnault, Executive Vice President of Louis Vuitton. This year, the jury has decided to award the Karl Lagerfeld Prize to the designer Eli Russell Linnetz for his brand ERL who draws from the culture of Venice Beach and his native California, to create joyful, cool and sensual clothes, and to Idris Balogun for Winnie New York, who revamps the codes of a colorful elegance, inspired by the staples of menswear.”
Three fashion school graduates were also distinguished at the event: Filippo Bendanti, a graduate of Università Iuav di Venezia; Miriam Griffiths a graduate of Central Saint Martins; and Valeria Pasco a graduate of Les Ateliers Alix. Each will join the studios of Dior women, Louis Vuitton women and Dior men.
“Innovation is more powerful when it springs from a preserved heritage,” said Bernard Arnault, Chairman and CEO of LVMH.
