Function and form came together for Theory’s fall/winter 2016 collection, building upon the label’s ethos of intelligent design. For the new line, modern life was in the spotlight, as solutions for the everyday wearer are tucked deep into hidden zip pockets and removable layers. Innovative fabrics like double-faced cashmere and Neoteric—a Swiss-engineered nylon twill—are seen amplifying the new collection’s essentials, offering a seamless outfit for both work and the weekend ahead. Last week at Theory’s men’s presentation, among mannequins and mingling guests alike, we got a glimpse of the new goodies.
Walking into Theory’s store on Gansevoort Street, one found a pyramid-shaped display of hanging pieces. New coats, jackets, and shirts were seen spaciously hanging, as guests thumbed their way through an eyeful of new material. A leather motorcycle jacket, a varsity jacket, and a patterned coat gave a breath of fresh air to the mannequins on the other side of the room—many dressed in trouser pants and business jackets. A bar tucked away in the far left corner served up Theory cocktails, and light snacks were served too. There were a few large-scale installation pieces made of wood in the center of the room, further reinstating the season’s message of contemporary, urban design.
