Last night, Porsche Design unveiled its collaboration with Berlin-based artist, Thierry Noir. The partnership features Noir’s own distinct, heart faces painted on to the brand’s classic TwinsBag. Porsche Design plans to make a limited amount of 200 uniquely handcrafted bags, made available for purchase worldwide to the public in selected stores starting January 2014.
The anticipated joint project between the French artist and luxury brand debut during Art Basel Miami Beach this week was fitting. Being no stranger to the Miami fairs, Porsche Design also presented a piece then in 2011: a collaboration alongside artist Miguel Paredes, debuting the 911 Speedster Art Car, covered completely with Paredes’ psychedelic graffiti art.
Noir is most widely known for filling sections of the stark white Berlin wall with his vibrant and colorful street art beginning in 1984, just two years after moving to Germany from France. His paintings are recognized by their distinct shaping and unique faces of his characters. The pop artist wants viewers to see the characters in his paintings however they want, and to see whomever they want in them. His paintings of the characters have received wide recognition in the global art scene.
