Last week in Paris, Viktor & Rolf presented a spring/summer 2017 couture collection named “Boulevard of Broken Dreams.” Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren sought out methods of conscious design, continuing an effort in upcycling fabric and materials. The designers patch-worked together fragments from vintage cocktail dresses and gowns. The resulting surprising silhouettes exude beauty in their obvious imperfections, calling to mind the Japanese pottery technique of Kintsugi where value is found in cracks and chips.
