The bright plumage of New Guinea’s Birds of Paradise provided the inspiration for Vionnet‘s fall/winter 2017 collection. Once believed to have come from heaven, the rare bird—in look and in flight—translated into a palette of jewel-like colors of nude, taupe, white, green, pink, red, and turquoise.
Delicate materials of chiffon, cady, and crepe de chine silks were draped, cut, and gathered to float down the runway. Satin sashes, sequin stripes, and accents of goat fur and shearling added a bit of edge to the overall ethereal season.
The actual bird could be found in prints on bags and pajamas, while colorful feathers flocked to block heel booties.
