Maison Louis Vuitton is commemorating the launch of its Spring/Summer 2022 menswear collection with multiple activations in New York and a special sale at Sotheby’s featuring the house’s recent collaboration with Nike. One of the last collections by Virgil Abloh, the celebration seems exceptionally impactful in the wake of the beloved designer, who we lost just two months ago.

In the city’s Soho neighborhood at 104 Prince Street is a temporary residence specially conceived for the spring collection. The immersive retail environment is outfitted with motifs signature to Abloh’s work, like electric-hued interiors, checked flooring, and a forest of birch trees. Memorable pieces from the collection include soft trunks, Millionaires glasses, and collectible sneakers. Meanwhile, the maison’s flagship on 5th Avenue boasts a brand-new mural of Abloh rendered in neon, stretched across the building’s ten stories.
The house also worked with Sotheby’s for an online sale of 200 special edition pairs of Louis Vuitton’s Nike Air Force 1 collaboration, imagined by Abloh for the same season. Open until February 8, prior to the in-store launch of the shoe, the sale will see proceeds go to The Virgil Abloh “Post-Modern” Scholarship Fund. With support from the Fashion Scholarship Fund, the funds raised will work for the benefit of Black, African American, and African students.

Abloh’s take on the classic Air Force 1 shape features sections of blue and white damier check set atop the Louis Vuitton monogram print, imagined in smooth calf leather, and marked with the type “AIR”. With a range of sizes available in the virtual auction, each collectible pair comes in its own bright orange Monogram Taurillon leather pilot case—also from the Spring/Summer 2022 collection.
