Last night night, young, spruced-up guests played roulette and craps, took pictures beside a 1968 Jaguar XKE, and convened in a Neo-Georgian mansion, with palm trees strewn about and French yé-yé playing for good measure. It was not a night at the French Riveira, but rather, the Museum of Arts and Design’s (MAD) second annual young patrons gala, “An Evening in Monte Carlo with Valentino” at the Harold Pratt House on Park Avenue. Experimental artist and designer Sebastian Errazuriz was honored for his work.
The festive night began with cocktails and gambling, followed by a seated dinner for 100. Patrons took their “chances” at winning artworks by Jennie Jieun Lee, William Steiger, and Sebastian Blanck, among others. MAD director Glenn Adamson gave his opening remarks, followed by furniture designer Vladimir Kagan, who gave an animated toast to contemporary Errazuriz. Errazuriz’s Immaterial Column was on auction, alongside works by artists Andrew Brischler, Isca Greenfield-Sanders, Justin Adian, Ray Johnson, Rob Wynne, Kiki Smith, Erika Keck, Simone Leigh, and Todd Pavlisko.
All proceeds from the event will support MAD, as well as the programs it provides at NYC publics schools.
