All this week, we’re covering the EXPO fair and surrounding events in Chicago. To give you an insider look at the city, we’re talking to a few exceptional Chicagoans who are sharing their favorite spots to dine, drink, play, and see art. Up next, we have gallerist Kavi Gupta.
WHERE TO EAT AND SIP:
Ada Street—my go-to for consistently great food and an even greater atmosphere, you even get to choose a record to listen to while you dine (Rolling Stones-Some Girls) so for me, it’s a Chicago must. It’s owned by the DMK Restaurant Group and we love all that they do! Momotaro is also a wonderful meal—greatest sushi in the city with amazing design and service.
WHERE TO SEE ART:
I’m so excited about all the fantastic Art Design Chicago projects this fall, especially The Smart Museum of Art‘s “The Time Is Now: Art Worlds of Chicago’s South Side 1960-1980,” “Hairy Who, 1966-69” at the Art Institute, “South Side Stories—The Art & Influence of Dr. Margaret T. Burroughs, 1960-1980” at the DuSable Museum of African American History, and of course “AFRICOBRA 50” curated by one of the co-founders of the group in honor of AFRICOBRA‘s 50th anniversary, which opens at our Elizabeth Street Gallery this weekend!
WHERE TO HAVE FUN AND RELAX:
I’m a classic car fanatic so I love going to Cooper Technica—the premier post-war French car restoration facility, which is like a mini-museum and library dedicated to the historical preservation of the most famous coach-built automobiles. I also love the screening room at Soho House Chicago.
