Last week at the Sunglass Hut in SoHo, we got a glimpse of Burberry’s latest eyewear collection for spring/summer 2016. The lively afternoon was full of fun mingling, enjoying champagne and light bites, and trying on countless eyewear options.
The Regent Collection, inspired by Burberry’s global flagship in London, shines with contrasts. Cutting-edge innovation is combined with 19th-century architectural design, which drives this sleek new collection—a re-visit to the past, and a revamp of Burberry’s classic house check design. Originally appearing in the lining of its weatherproof coat, the signature house check has since graced Burberry cashmere scarves, classic trench coats, and accessories, and is recognized all over the world. For this collection’s debut, we see it depicted in three ways: a brushed check on metal, created by a stamping technique; gradient-raised, created by a 3-D mold; and the all-over raised check. The new shades are available in over-sized round and square frames, and cat-eye and butterfly shapes, while the optical styles are available in oval and rectangular designs. Colors of toffee, black, tortoise, and red are seen mixed between gradient-effect pale rose and beige hues.
For the occasion, Burberry created an immersive in-store experience in the back of Sunglass Hut entitled, “#AfterTheRain.” Through June 19, guests are able to experience London’s torrential downpour, without getting wet, and the lovely, quick turnaround of sun for themselves—all through images, lights, and surround-sound. At the launch last week, guests were able to create a shareable video, while enjoying music by British DJ Chelsea Leyland.
