André Fu’s Hong Kong: The Cultural Compound of Tai Kwun

By Whitewaller

March 29, 2019

To help you get the most out of your Art Basel experience, we’re asking leading art, culture, and lifestyle experts to share how they enjoy Hong Kong. Here, we spoke with architect André Fu.

Tai Kwun is the latest addition to Hong Kong’s cultural offering—formerly the police headquarter in the city’s central area. The restored heritage buildings are juxtaposed against the newly added art museums by Herzog & de Meuron. The compound also aims to be the city’s go-to destination for contemporary and performing arts. I am particularly fond of the variety of architectural moments within the complex—the amphitheater and the concrete spiral stairway are some of my favorite spots.”
