Audemars Piguet recently unveiled a watch collector’s dream: the much sought-after platinum Royal Oak Chronograph Leo Messi, bearing the iconic number 10. The timepiece is set to be auctioned at Sotheby’s upcoming spring sale on May 11, 2013. All benefits from the sale will go directly to the support of football legend and Audemars Piguet brand ambassador Leo Messi’s charitable foundation.
This particular timepiece is slightly different than its Royal Oak Leo Messi limited-edition counterpart. While the tantalum bezel, and steel, pink, or platinum case are still part of the package, the collector’s edition watch does not have the “tapisserie” motif of the limited series. Instead, the 41 mm diameter timepiece features a deep blue motif with white gold hour-markers.
An ambassador to the brand since 2010, Argentinian-born Leo Messi is widely recognized as among the greatest football legends in the world. His charitable organization the Leo Messi Foundation helps underprivileged kids achieve their dreams through the allocation of funding and support.
Frederick Martel, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Audemars Piguet North America had this to say of the auction, “A piece of this unique quality of design and craftsmanship combined with the chance to meet the greatest living football legend is not only going to capture the attention of astute watch collectors but devoted football fans from around the world.”
