Baselworld 2013: Harry Winston and the Watch with 497 Diamonds

Harry Winston has raised the stakes at Baselworld this year by revealing the exquisite Premier Glacier, a timepiece that boasts not only the most complex dial the brand has ever created, but a total of 497 diamonds that frost the entire design.

Weighing in at roughly 30.59 carats it is a bold showpiece worthy of a place next to Elizabeth Taylor’s eponymous diamonds, which leads the Premier Glacier in terms of weight at a whopping 33.19 carats. The glittering jewels appear to be set haphazardly to achieve the look of a glacier, with baguette-cut diamonds forming an asymmetrical pattern across the dial to add a touch of drama to the crystallized chronograph. The bracelet then drapes yet more precious gems around the watch bearers wrist, all elegantly linked together by a 18K white gold folding clasp.

A true example of precision and craftsmanship, Harry Winston’s unparalleled team of master gem specialists cut each diamond in house. In fact, so complex was the setting of the diamonds that adorn the dial, the brand’s master gem setter could only set between five and seven diamonds a day.

The Premier Glacier is both the diamond lovers best friend and a dramatic ode to Harry Winston’s trademark expertise. Further, the painstaking processes entailed in creating this dazzling timepiece means only five pieces will ever be made.
