Baselworld 2014 recently took place in Basel, Switzerland from March 19 -26. Whitewall was at the watch and jewelry fair to check out the latest launches first-hand.
Blancpain’s 2014 Villeret model is named after the birthplace of the manufacture, and radiates a historical elegance the watchmaker is known for. Featuring grand feu enamel fired under extreme temperatures, the watch is a work of intricate craftsmanship and distinction. Its case is red gold and features slightly hollowed sage leaf-shaped hands in addition to a Côtes de Genève on the movement bridges and a honeycomb pattern on the oscillating weight. Powered by a Calibre 1335, the watch demonstrates both the knowhow and timeless elegance of Blancpain.
Boucheron’s Epure D’Art collection melds art and watchmaking. Pairing its time-keeping to the simplest function, this collection aims to give room to its artisans. Illuminating intricate goldsmith work and an ornate artistic sense, the timepieces give a sense of rare whimsy in such a small space as the face of watch. Within this collection the Vague De Lumiere reinterprets Hukusai’s Wave using white gold, diamonds, and polished hematite; the Oursin uses blue sapphires and white diamonds to explore the sea; and the Fleur De Jour employs carved mother of pearl on top of diamond to create a beautiful flower image.
