Bella Cuba, Ball & Chain, and the Margulies Collection: Katelijne De Backer’s Miami

This week, Whitewaller Miami launches for Art Basel in Miami Beach (December 7—10). To help guide you to the best spots in town—where you can eat, drink, see art, and relax at, we hear from a group of insiders. Next up, the director of PULSE Contemporary Art Fair, Katelijne De Backer

WHERE TO EAT AND SIP
The Vagabond Kitchen & Bar is unpretentious and fun, and the food is all about quality and freshness. Plus, they have great cocktails! I also like Bella Cuba for its casual, authentic Cuban food. It’s close to all the fairs but few art people know about it. Late at night, you can even dance in the middle of the restaurant!

WHERE TO SEE ART
Each time I visit the Margulies Collection I am inspired, surprised, and in awe. It’s a must-visit when in Miami! I also love the Ella Fontanals-Cisneros Collection. I would be remiss to exclude the National YoungArts Foundation. If you’ve never been to see an exhibition at the Jewel Box on their campus, you’re missing out!

WHERE TO HAVE FUN AND RELAX
My hip friends in Miami took me to this iconic nightclub from the 1930s to 1950s called Ball & Chain. It’s in Little Havana and has a great atmosphere and Cuban-style food and drinks. And I like to relax at Soho Beach House. It’s a great place to sip a drink by the pool or wind down with a massage.
