Baxter St at the Camera Club of New York held their fourth annual benefête, “Baxter St on the Rock,” on June 18 at the Rockaway Hotel. Honoring Harper’s Bazaar Editor-in-Chief Samira Nasr, Tariq “Black Thought” Trotter, and emerging photographer Elliott Jerome Brown Jr, the event raised essential funds for the 137-year-old organization.

Baxter St alum Ivan Forde unveiled his 90-foot long commissioned mural on the hotel’s facade at the party, accompanied by live and exclusive performances by Black Thought, a DJ set by Questlove, oft-sampled Menahan Street Band with RockNation’s KIRBY, Derrick Adams with Roots trumpeter Dave Guy, and more.

Baxter St is known for its critical support of emerging lens-based artists. “Baxter St on the Rock” celebrates the power of images and the equity in visual culture, representation, and advocacy for inclusivity across lens-based media.

The event brought together artists, musicians, philanthropists, and cultural luminaries like Baxter St President Michi Jigarjian, Rashid Johnson and Sheree Hovsepian, Precious Lee, Titus Kaphar, Sarah Hoover, Zoe Buckman, Cecilia Dean, Kennedy Yanko, Casey Freemont, Michelle Hellman and more to raise funds for the Workspace Residency Program, cutting-edge exhibitions, grant-making program, and conversation series.
