Last Saturday, Christie’s held a private viewing event for its upcoming First Open sale of Post-War and Contemporary Art, sponsored by Maserati and Absolut Elyx. Head of First Open, Saara Pritchard was the host for the evening at the New York outpost of the auction house.
On view were some of the 400 works that will be auctioned on September 26. The First Open sale is a great way for new and long-time collectors to purchase work by emerging artists and established artists at a more accessible price point. Some highlights were outlined by Pritchard in Whitewallmag.com’s recent video.
While guests gazed at paintings, drawings, photographs, and sculptures by artists like Oscar Murillo, Kerry James Marshall, Tauba Auerbach, Nate Lowman and Aaron Young, they sipped on creative cocktails from the Absolut Elyx bar. Several pairs of Google Glasses made the rounds Saturday evening, as well, a few of which were used to scope out both the art and some of the Maserati models (like the Ghibli SQ4) parked at the Christie’s entrance and in one of the galleries.
Whitewall was also there for the event, our fall 2013 Fashion Issue featuring an interview with Pritchard. As DJ Oli Benz kept the crowd going, Whitewall’s team showed off the fall issue in print and on iPad.
