For the Whitewaller Miami issue, out this week for Art Basel in Miami Beach, we handpicked a few insiders—a select group of those in-the-know on all things Miami—that shared with us how to navigate the city this fall. Here we have, Lauren Kelly, director at Sean Kelly gallery, share her top spots to eat, drink, network, and relax this week.
WHERE TO EAT
One of my favorite spots is The Lido Bayside Grill at The Standard. If I am in the mood, then the fried chicken at Dirtybird hits all the right spots.
WHERE TO SIP
There are so many parties during the week that sometimes it is fun to and have a drink at Mac’s Club Deuce—a.k.a. “the Deuce.” It has a jukebox and a pool table, and is usually filled with young artists and art handlers.
WHERE TO SEE ART
Besides walking around the convention center, I am really looking forward to the opening of the Faena Forum. The Cuban collective Los Carpinteros will help inaugurate the Forum with a performance of their piece Conga Irreversible—an inverted comparsa.
WHERE TO HAVE FUN
I love visiting Alchemist on Lincoln Road. They always do an innovative collaboration for Basel week. If I am in the Design District, I make sure to pop into the Chrome Hearts store and grab a Ladurée macaron in the courtyard—divine!
WHERE TO RELAX
Every morning, I start the day with a quick dip in the ocean. Besides that, the Cowshed Spa at Soho Beach House is a must.
TOP SHOWS TO SEE IN MIAMI
Must-sees are PAMM, ICA Miami, Cisneros Fontanals Art Foundation (CIFO), and The Margulies Collection at the Warehouse. And Sun Xun’s immersive large-scale installation, Reconstruction of the Universe, will be presented on the beach in front of Collins Park for the second Audemars Piguet Art Commission.
