Dior Paradise Debuts in Cannes With a Nod to Christian Dior’s Private Garden

Filled with Provençal air, blooming flowers, verdant gardens, and a quiet enchantment, Dior Paradise becomes an atmosphere of pure exhilaration.

During Cannes, while much of the fashion and film world remained along the glittering coastline of the French Riviera, Christian Dior Parfums invited guests inland to something quieter, softer, and infinitely more intimate. Deep in the Grasse countryside, at the legendary Château de La Colle Noire, Dior celebrated the launch of Dior Paradise, the newest fragrance from La Collection Privée Christian Dior.

The scent, created by Francis Kurkdjian, Dior Perfume Creation Director since his appointment in 2021, continues the perfumer’s deeply personal dialogue with Monsieur Dior himself. Since taking on the role, Kurkdjian has immersed himself in the world of Christian Dior—not simply through archival references or visual codes, but through atmosphere, memory, and place. At La Colle Noire, the château where Dior escaped Parisian life and surrounded himself with flowers, gardens, and silence, that connection becomes tangible.

Kurkdjian, regarded as one of the defining perfumers of his generation, has long been celebrated for his ability to transform emotion into scent. His fragrances possess an intellectual clarity while remaining sensual and transportive. At Dior, he has already shaped standout creations including Bois Talisman, Rose Star, and Esprit de Parfum. With Dior Paradise, he turns toward something warmer and more luminous: an olfactory interpretation of joy, sunlight, and the South of France itself.

Dior Paradise is a radiant woody fragrance inspired by the almond orchards surrounding Château de La Colle Noire. At its center is a creamy, bitter almond accord illuminated by sparkling mandarin before unfolding into the warmth of enveloping tonka bean.

The result feels textured and alive—simultaneously elegant and carefree. Dior Paradise evokes the feeling of stepping into the château’s gardens at golden hour. Rather than constructing the fragrance around a specific season, Kurkdjian focused on capturing the spirit of Christian Dior himself: the couturier as gardener, dreamer, host, and aesthete.

An Evening at Château de La Colle Noire

The celebration itself mirrored the fragrance’s world. Guests arrived at the château for an intimate dinner surrounded by fragrant gardens, candlelit stone terraces, and the quiet rhythm of the Provençal countryside. Every detail was designed to immerse attendees in the atmosphere that once so profoundly inspired Christian Dior.

The evening’s guest list included Dior ambassadors Lingling Kwong and Jasper Liu alongside Anthony Boyle, Alexa Chung, Camélia Jordana, Charlotte Le Bon, Jay Lycurgo, Mamadou Sidibé, Mina Kavani, Nadine Labaki, Paul Kircher, Susanne Wuest, and Vanille. Yet despite the star power, the mood remained remarkably understated and personal.

Dinner was equally rooted in storytelling. Guests were served some of Monsieur Dior’s favorite dishes, subtly recreating the sensory world he once inhabited. Between courses, Kurkdjian spoke about the inspiration behind the fragrance and how essential the château has become for anyone entering Dior’s creative universe.

The estate functions almost as a pilgrimage site for Dior creatives. Just as Kurkdjian spent time wandering its gardens and interiors to better understand the founder’s sensibility, Dior Creative Director Jonathan Anderson has also reportedly visited the château to absorb the atmosphere and heritage of the maison. The experience is less about studying archives and more about understanding a feeling: the rhythm of life Dior cultivated there.

A Fragrance as Atmosphere

What makes Dior Paradise compelling is that it does not simply smell beautiful—it creates a world. The fragrance carries the emotional quality of sunshine after winter, the anticipation of spring beginning to bloom, and the sense of a garden constantly shifting with life. It feels cheerful without becoming simplistic, sensual without heaviness.

At La Colle Noire, Christian Dior once found a sanctuary where creativity could flourish away from the intensity of Paris. Decades later, Dior Paradise transforms that same refuge into scent. Through Kurkdjian’s interpretation, the château becomes more than a historical site, but an atmosphere suspended in time, filled with flowers, light, and endless inspiration.
