For the Whitewaller Miami issue, out next week for Art Basel in Miami Beach, we handpicked a few insiders—a select group of those in-the-know on all things Miami—that shared with us how to navigate the city this fall. Here, we have Oren Alexander, Broker at Douglas Elliman and Co-founder of the Alexander Team, share his top spots to eat, drink, network, and relax this week.
WHERE TO EAT
The new Peruvian restaurant DOA, which means “door” in Japanese. They’re open until 5 a.m., which is great for those running around Art Basel. It’s as if Zuma and Coya had a South Beach baby… If you want a quick, healthy option for lunch, Paradigm Kitchen—that’s from the JugoFresh team.
WHERE TO SIP
The Anderson Bar. It’s kind of where locals go to listen to old-school hip-hop.
WHERE TO SEE ART
The new Faena Forum, which was designed by OMA. The building itself is a work of art. It’s Miami’s version of the Guggenheim.
WHERE TO HAVE FUN
III Points Festival in the new Magic City district—an overlay district just north of the Design District, off of Second Avenue. There’s going to be a lot of activation during Basel there, and a lot of Burning Man-esque art, too.
WHERE TO RELAX
Bal Harbour. I would say between my parents’ home there, or the spa at St. Regis, that’s where I go to get out of the mess and enjoy the nature and peacefulness that’s only 15 minutes away from the craziness of Art Basel.
TOP SHOWS TO SEE IN MIAMI
I walk all of the fairs, but I always love to stop by Design Miami/. I’ll also be manning Douglas Elliman’s booth at the Collector’s Lounge at Art Basel, so come say hi!
