Dom Pérignon Celebrates “Metamorphosis” at The WALL

Katy Donoghue

5 December 2014

Last night, Dom Pérignon, Alex Dellal, Stavros Niarchos, and Vito Schnabel hosted a late night celebration of “Metamorphosis” at The WALL following an intimate dinner hosted by Aby Rosen and Samantha Boardman at The Dutch–W South Beach in Miami Beach.

Guests enjoyed Dom Pérignon’s latest limited-edition by Iris van Herpen and listened to music by DJs Alexandra Richards and DJ Jus-Ske.

Over the years, the after-party at The Wall for Rosen and Boardman’s annual dinner during Art Basel Miami Beach, has become the party to attend. Two year’s ago we recall standing in a crowd (of relatively “important” people) civilly waiting to get in, when an artist, so upset he had to wait any longer with this bunch of riff-raff, started shouting Nadine Johnson’s name–her firm always handles the guestlist–over and over again. As fire alarms were visibly and audibly going off due to over-capacity, he was smartly ignored. Last year, there were at least three checkpoints from the exterior of the W to the club inside, all mobbed, all seemingly a test to see how bad you wanted in.

This year, two different wristbands were given out to confirmed guests. There was a gold ribbon for an 11pm VVIP entry, and a black ribbon for 1am (we got the latter, which we are totally okay with, for the record). The first check-in was still so packed at one point we found ourselves crouching in a bush asking a man to move his elbow away from our chest. After around 20 minutes of accidental (allegedly) groping, shoving, pushing, and pleading, the 1am-ers were let in one by one, and we found our way to bumpin’ club.

And why do we go through that year after year for just a party, you ask? Well, it’s never just a party. There’s the star-studded guest list–and we’re talking movie stars, not art stars. Last night Owen Wilson, Wiz Khalifa, Joe Jonas, Tobey Maguire, Leonardo DiCaprio, A-Rod, Miguel, Venus Williams, Chanel Iman, Mia Moretti, Lil Buck, Tommy Hilfiger, Heidi Klum, Vera Wang and more were in attendance at the dinner and after-party.

There was the art crowd, too, including, Klaus Biesenbach, Peter M. Brant, Thomas Campbell, China Chow, Yvonne Force, Larry Gagosian, Jeanne Greenberg-Rohatyn, Alberto Mugrabi, Dasha Zhukova, Jean Pigozzi, and Peter Marino.

And the green lasers and lighting that made us feel like we were in J.Lo’s Waiting for Tonight video in the best way, were all on theme for the Dom Pérignon bubbly we were sipping and celebrating, while admiring the champagne house’s  van Herpen collaboration on display.

Finally its the dancing until the early hours of the next day (our hotel lobby attendant corrected us when we cheerily said “Good night” reminding us it was in fact, well into the morning). Everyone seriously let loose to hit after hit from DJ Jus-Ske, like a certain New York art fair director really tearing up the dance floor, standing on couches, bouncing between booths, and just plain cutting a rug.
