Federales, Le Colonial, and Ikram: Kara Mann’ Chicago

For EXPO Chicago 2016, we handpicked a few insiders—a select group of those in-the-know on all things Chicago—that shared with us how to navigate the city during the art fair. Next up, Kara Mann, founder and creative director of Kara Mann Design, who shares her top spots to eat, drink, network, and relax this week.

Where to eat
I’m a creature of habit so my forever go-to is Avec. The interior is right up my alley—minimal but warm. I never make it out of there without ordering the focaccia—it’s beyond.
For tequila and tacos head to Federales. It has a super low-key vibe that’s a total blast with no shortage of sunshine. Fish tacos and their classic margarita is it for me!

Where to sip
Cindy’s, the roof top at the Chicago Athletic Associate, is a piece of Chicago history turned on its edge. The views of Lake Michigan are ridiculous and make any cocktail taste amazing. I love the Grey Garden, but it may be because I’m obsessed with the movie. I’m also still a sucker for the upstairs bar at Le Colonial.

Where to network
Soho House seems to be the one and only joint in town for that “out of office” meeting. Slip off to Cowshed spa post-meeting for a great pre-event massage.

Where to have fun
I’d do a little side shopping at Ikram. She’ll have all the cool picks for your wardrobe.
The bean never lets you down for a fun public art moment.
And a stroll to catch up with friend visiting the fair anywhere along the lakefront.

Where to relax
Hit a Core Power Yoga class to sweat out the fair craziness from the day before.
