Art Basel Hong Kong 2026

Flashack: Hong Kong’s Best Events, Installations, and Celebrations

From immersive installations and heritage site activations to intimate dinners and late-night parties, Art Basel Hong Kong 2026 unfolded across the city in a dynamic convergence of art, design, and culture.

During Art Basel Hong Kong 2026, the city transformed into a layered cultural landscape, where exhibitions, performances, and gatherings extended far beyond the fair itself. Across landmark institutions, historic sites, and newly activated spaces, artists, brands, and cultural leaders reimagined how art is experienced—through immersive environments, interdisciplinary collaborations, and moments of connection that blurred the lines between public and private, spectacle and intimacy.

Swire x Coco Capitán Opening

At Taikoo Place, this year’s Swire Properties Arts Month centers on ArtisTree Selects: Imagination Investments, a new commission by Coco Capitán. Presented at ArtisTree and extending across the wider campus, the exhibition unfolds as a quiet meditation on memory, longing, and connection—tracing the emotional residue of lived experience within an urban context.

Born in Seville and based in London, Capitán works across photography, text, and image-making with a language that is both direct and disarming. Her handwritten phrases—at once wry and reflective—anchor a practice that moves between intimacy and scale, and has come to define her voice across both institutional and cultural spheres.

In Hong Kong, her work takes on an expanded form. Conceived as a three-part installation, the exhibition brings together photographs, painted surfaces, sail works, and poetic interventions alongside site-responsive and participatory elements. The experience begins within ArtisTree, moves outward through text in the public realm, and culminates at One Island East—forming a continuous, unfolding narrative.

Developed with Julius Baer, the project reflects on how meaning is constructed and carried—through images, language, and shared moments—offering a considered perspective on memory as both personal and collective.

Henderson Land x CJ Hendry Flower Market

Art Basel Hong Kong 2026 Henderson Land x Cj Hendry Flower Market, Plush Flowers, courtesy of Henderson Land and Cj Hendry.

A presentation by Cj Hendry takes shape with Henderson Land x Cj Hendry Flower Market, organised by Pen & Paper and presented by Henderson Land. Developed alongside the Henderson Land’s 50th anniversary celebration, the project shifts the celebration into a shared, public experience.

The Hong Kong edition introduces a field of plush, oversized flowers set within an immersive sequence. A hedge maze gives way to a greenhouse-like structure, where dense clusters of soft sculptural blooms create a contained, almost unreal landscape. Two works are specific to this context: the Allium and the Bauhinia.

The Allium, selected as the “Henderson Flower,” carries a sense of continuity and resilience, with subtle reference to the legacy of Lee Shau-kee and the brand’s green visual language. The Bauhinia draws from Hong Kong’s emblem, its form quietly echoing the lines of The Henderson.

As with much of Hendry’s work, the gesture is simple but deliberate. The installation constructs a temporary environment—playful, immersive, and slightly dislocated—before returning visitors to the city with a shifted perception of the familiar.

Sotheby’s Beyond the Abstract

Sotheby’s engages a new generation of collectors through evening previews accompanied by DJ sets, introducing a more informal, social rhythm to the viewing experience. The show. Beyond the Abstract at Sotheby’s Maison at Chater House is a wide-ranging survey of abstraction in Greater China. Spanning millennia, the exhibition traces connections across cultures through works that move between painting, sculpture, works on paper, and historical objects.

A focused group of modern and contemporary works anchors the presentation, including pieces by Joan Mitchell and Mark Rothko, alongside a newly identified painting by Sanyu. Works by Cy Twombly, Zao Wou-Ki, Lucio Fontana, and Alexander Calder extend the dialogue.

A single-night gathering, Once Upon a Time, brought together by event collective Surprise Surprise and experiential art platform, Vox Vanguard at Haw Par Mansion. The evening centered on a live performance by the Vox Chamber Orchestra—formed by musicians from the city’s leading string quartets—joined by Cantopop star Jeannie Ng Ka-yan.

Set within the former residence of Aw Boon Haw, the “King of Tiger Balm,” the programme unfolded as a fluid sequence of music, movement, and atmosphere. Guests moved through the space with small theatrical gestures woven throughout, including a cocktail menu referencing the site’s medicinal legacy.

The event marked the first cultural activation at the mansion since its closure in 2022. Built in 1937 and now a protected heritage site, the property is expected to undergo restoration, signaling a new phase for the historic landmark.
