Friday Fête: Parties in NYC, Galas in LA, Design Debuts in Milan, and More

In this edition of Friday Fête, Whitewall is sharing global happenings in cities like Los Angeles, New York, and Milan over the past few weeks.

Whispering Angel.

On June 1 in New York, Chateau d’Esclans introduced its latest rosé, The Beach by Whispering Angel, at Whispering Angel’s The Beach. Surfrider’s COO Michelle Kremer and the chateau’s Vice President Paul Chevalier hosted the poolside party, which greeted guests with gorgeous, themed flower installations for an evening filled with the rose-colored beverage.

The Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) in Los Angeles commenced its 2022 Gala at The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA for the first time in three years on June 4. The evening of fundraising hosted around 600 patrons, artists, and performers—including names like Tala Madani, Lauren Halsey, Keanu Reeves, Eva Longoria, and Rafael Esparza—to a seated meal, a performance from Chance the Rapper, and a dance party led by the artist Pipilotti Rist, which featured a set by DJ Heidi Lawden

Baglioni

Especially for Milan Design Week, Casa Baglioni hosted an exclusive art exhibition. Open early to friends and family on June 6, the hotel show was entitled “In-Between. Where Art meets Design,” inviting the public to experience its interiors, recontextualized as an art space

Also in Milan that night, the new architecture and design center DROPCITY commemorated its opening with an evening meal and a late-night cocktail reception. Located in the tunnels of via Sammartini, Nhood and Studio Andrea Caputo hosted guests for a preview of its exhibitions (featuring the work of names like Ricardo Bofil, Fosbury Architecture, KooZArch, and others)which saw an evening complete with DJ sets by Amazon, Omar James, Brandon Bladeblanc, Miss Jay, Sonia Garcia, Condoii, Plethor X, and Luwei.

On June 7, but in New York, Bonhams opened its sale of works themed “The Male Form.” Open for bidding for one day only, the featured works explored the titular subject matter in a range of mediums dating from the Old Masters up through the 21st Century.

That night, Markarian’s Alexandra O’Neill celebrated its Resort 2023 collection with an elegant dinner hosted with the help of Saks Fifth Avenue’s Chief Merchandising Officer, Tracy Margolies. Together at L’Avenue at Saks’s picturesque terrace, partygoers like Pippa Bennett-Warner, Jordan Foster, Cece Barfield Thompson, and Nicky Hilton dined amid colorful floral arrangements by Missi Flowers.

Also that night, the stylist Kate Young helped Sotheby’s celebrate Luxury Week in New York with a special reception and preview of what the week had to offer. Young was joined by Batsheva Hay, Derek Blasberg, Peter Som, and others at the space for cocktails, Sant Ambroeus passed bites, and a flower wall by FLORABROOK before taking a first look at the auction.

And on Madison Avenue at the Fendi boutique, the maison hosted a book signing for its recent publication with Rizzoli, The Fendi Set: From Bloomsbury to Borghese. Available for signatures were the house’s Artistic Director of Womenswear and Couture, Kim Jones, and the featured photographer Nikolai von Bismarck, who greeted an intimate guest list of attendees like Selah Marley, Bella Hadid, Fe Fendi, and Maxwell Snow.

The same evening, but in Milan, LOEWE’s Creative Director Jonathan Anderson hosted a cocktail at Palazzo Isimbardi for the occasion of its “Weave, Restore, Renew” project, part of Milan Design Week. In attendance were names like Hamish Bowles, Bryanboy, Giulia Maenza, and Olivia Lopez.

Next, back on the East Coast, Paco Rabanne launched its “Endless Sunset” capsule at SoHo’s The Webster on June 8. The summer soiree saw attendees like Madelynn Furlong, Sira Pevida, Young Emperors, and Tanner Reese gathering for an evening that featured musical entertainment by DJ Adi Oasis.

Free Arts NYC held its 23rd Annual Art Auction that same evening in New York at the Altman Building, shining a spotlight on the artist Futura as the evening’s honoree. Hosted by Marc Jacobs with support from Supreme, the night began with cocktails and music by Matthew Jamal, with guests browsing the sale of works donated by artists like Jo Messer, Ed Ruscha, and Marcus Leslie Singleton. After the auction, hosted by Aileen Agopian, those in attendance enjoyed a sumptuous dining experience by Contra & Wildair’s Jeremiah Stone and Fabián von Hauske, closing out a successful evening with an afterparty featuring DJs Vashtie and A-Trak.

Philipp Plein

Then, on June 9 back in Milan, Philipp Plein feted the launch of his interiors colletion with an evening at its via Burlamacchi showroom. The designer himself was joined by partygoers like Ellen von Unwerth, Anna Carla E Simona, Mattia Zaccheo, Simona Coppola, and Ozara, who celebrated the home collection’s new offerings, like wallpaper, hand-blown lighting, outdoor furnishings, and more.

Concurrently, DSQUARED2 introduced the design world to its new collection of wallpaper at a party hosted with the help of LondonArt. Held at The Sanctuary, the celebration commenced late into the night with music from DJs Andrea Olivia and Nic Fanciulli.

Costa Brazil

On June 14, the eco-conscious beauty brand Costa Brazil commemorated the debut of its first New York pop-up—open at 146 Greene Street through June 26—with a fete co-hosted by the brand’s founder Francisco Costa, Sophia Roe, and the Editor in Chief of Cherry Bombe, Kerry Diamond. Within the modern and minimalistic retail space, guests like Romily Newman, Dick Page, and Janaina Tschape previewed the space (where patrons can shop the entire collection whilst enjoying a VR experience featuring a film by the Yawanawá tribe) and enjoyed treats like caipirinhas and Brazilian bites.

Verōnika

Tucked inside of New York’s photography museum Fotografiska, the newly-opened restaurant Verōnika and the adjoining Bar Verōnika put on a two-night dinner party last Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. Host Josh Wyatt, the CEO, and Co-Founder of CultureWorks, welcomed a guest list of names like Zoe Buckman, David LaChapelle, Ellen von Unwerth, and Egomeli Horme for an elegant late-night dining experience at the European-inspired establishments.

Also on Wednesday, June 15, the tequila label Avión conceived a one-of-a-kind experience with NBA player Iman Shumpert for the introduction of its latest offering, the Avión Reserva Cristalino. In celebration of the crystalline liquor, Shumpert hosted an evening with the brand’s Carlos Andrés Ramirez and audio engineer Danny Keith Taylor, where a special listening experience guided guests on a sensorial journey through the art of tequila making.

And on Thursday, Christopher John Rogers and Saks Chief Merchandising Officer Tracy Margolies celebrated the launch of the designer’s Pre-Fall 2022 collection with an intimate evening at L’Avenue at Saks. Attendees like Maya Jankelowitz, Roopal Patel, David Rivera, and Luke Meagher were treated to cocktails and a three-course dinner amid a colorful tablescape outfitted with florals by Brooklyn’s Love Me Not Floral.
