Le Specialità Miami

From Milan to the Miami Design District: Le Specialità Makes a Striking U.S. Debut

Where Italian tradition meets Miami modernity, Le Specialità introduces a refined, art-infused dining experience to the Design District.

This season, the Miami Design District welcomes an iconic Milanese institution as Le Specialità opens its first U.S. outpost, bringing nearly five decades of Italian culinary heritage to one of the city’s most design-forward neighborhoods. Revived for Miami by the Spicy Hospitality Group—the team behind The Joyce and several forthcoming coastal and urban concepts—the restaurant ushers in a new era of Italian dining in South Florida, one rooted in authenticity, artistry, and a distinctly Milan-meets-Miami state of mind.

Founded on Via Pietro Calvi in 1977, Le Specialità has long been considered a benchmark for Milanese dining—an elevated yet familiar trattoria where seasonal cooking, warm hospitality, and expertly executed classics converge. Its reputation was built not only on its celebrated pizzas but on a broader philosophy that food, wine, and conviviality are extensions of Italy’s cultural fabric. In Miami, that legacy remains intact, only expanded and reinterpreted through the energy, color, and contemporary rhythm of the Design District.

“Bringing Le Specialità to the U.S. marks a major milestone for Spicy Hospitality Group,” says founder Andre Sakhai. “The restaurant has long been a cornerstone of Milan’s dining culture, and the Miami Design District is the ideal setting for its American debut.”

A Menu Rooted in Italian Tradition, Refined for Miami

Le Specialità’s culinary identity has always been anchored in simplicity, seasonality, and excellence. Its Miami menu continues in the same spirit, highlighting handmade pastas, pristine seafood, and fine Italian meats while introducing dishes shaped by the city’s international palate. Signature pizzas—including the beloved Margherita, the Truffle Pizza, and the boldly spiced Piccantissimi—showcase the restaurant’s iconic dough, celebrated for its airy crispness and careful leavening.

Seafood-driven secondi such as Branzino alla Siciliana and Dover Sole Meunière echo classic Italian technique, while a golden Veal Milanese nods to its Milanese roots. Desserts keep the experience rooted in tradition, from a selection of house-made gelati in flavors like pistachio, nocciola, and crema italiana to a velvety tiramisu layered with mascarpone mousse, espresso, and cocoa.

The beverage program is equally ambitious. A 260-label wine list focuses on Italy’s most storied regions, complemented by coveted vintages from Burgundy and Bordeaux—including bottles from Pétrus, Pavie, and Le Pin—many dating back three decades. Signature cocktails, like the Milano Mai Tai, Fragola Basilico, and Espresso Italiano, are crafted to pair effortlessly with the menu’s flavors.

Where Milanese Design Meets Miami Energy

Art and design sit at the heart of the Le Specialità experience, beginning with an eclectic contemporary art collection curated by Sakhai. Works by Jean-Michel Basquiat, KAWS, Rashid Johnson, Joel Mesler, Takashi Murakami, Richard Prince, Peter Saul, and John Wesley infuse the space with a dynamic visual language that bridges Milan’s artistic heritage and Miami’s culture-forward vibrancy. “The art sets the tone for the whole space,” Sakhai explains. “It’s what brings personality and depth to the design.”

To translate the brand’s Milanese roots into a Miami context, Spicy Hospitality tapped Rockwell Group, whose interiors channel a “radical retro-chic” aesthetic inspired by Milan’s bold design movements of the 1960s and ’70s and the celebratory energy of Miami. Guests move from lively sidewalk seating into a sculptural interior marked by sweeping curves, terrazzo floors with metal inlay, striped leather booths reminiscent of vintage Ferraris, and a dramatic terrazzo-clad pizza oven framed by a butcher-block chef’s bar. Custom furnishings, sourced with Artemest, deepen the sense of Italian craft. Even the powder rooms become playful “portals” between the two cities, awash in pink terrazzo, pastel mirrors, and colorful chandeliers.

Outside, the terrace extends the ambience with striped canopies, colorful upholstery, and a relaxed al fresco atmosphere that channels Miami’s year-round outdoor lifestyle.
