In 1887, four brothers opened the Raffles Hotel in Singapore. It marked the start of Raffles Hotels & Resorts—a global line of luxury hotels that honors unparalleled service, local culture, and impeccable design. Over the years, the company gained acclaim for its ability to celebrate the culture of each destination, weaving parts of local identity into programming, décor, cuisine, and more. Most recently, in July 2024, the brand’s kismet unfolded in Jaipur with the opening of a new location.
The 50-room property was designed by architect Clive Gray, showcasing regal Rajasthani craftsmanship through traditional aesthetics and contemporary luxury. Imagined to evoke the grandeur of a modern palace, its style draws inspiration from Jaipur’s royal forts and havelis, with majestic domes, grand archways, and intricately carved jaali screens that reflect the craftsmanship of Rajasthan’s artisans. Courtyards, water features, and lush gardens further enhance the sense of tranquility and regal elegance. Inside, interiors pay tribute to the city’s artistic heritage, with hand-painted frescoes, inlaid marble floors, and rich textiles that echo the opulence of Rajasthan’s royal residences.
Guests are first greeted with a royal façade, leading to an exquisite interior drenched in pastels, dotted with unique rooms—from a writer’s bar and an atrium with a tea lounge to a spa with hot and cold mineral pools. Locally sourced materials, including sandstone and Makrana marble, are woven into the design, ensuring authenticity. For a final touch of contemporary luxury, spacious suites are filled with modern amenities, bespoke furniture, soft lighting, and rich textures.
From Raffles Jaipur, its general manager, Binny Sebastian, shares an inside look at how the hotel honors the Pink City and what special programming it is unveiling this year.

WW: The hotel is an architectural masterpiece that seamlessly blends Rajasthan’s royal heritage with the timeless elegance of Raffles. How does the hotel pay homage to the region’s royal heritage while embracing global luxury?
BS: The property is designed as a modern palace, drawing inspiration from Jaipur’s historic forts and havelis, with intricate jaali work, hand-painted frescoes, and grand archways that reflect the city’s artistic legacy. Rather than a traditional restoration, Raffles Jaipur was meticulously crafted to embody the spirit of Rajasthan’s regal past while offering the sophisticated luxury that Raffles is known for. Every design element, from the domes and courtyards to the handcrafted interiors, was thoughtfully curated to evoke a sense of grandeur. The use of locally sourced materials, traditional Rajasthani motifs, and a harmonious color palette creates an ambiance that feels both historic and contemporary.

WW: Raffles Jaipur has incorporated elements of Jaipur’s rich cultural and artistic heritage into its design, décor, and overall ambiance. Can you share a few of your favorite elements?
BS: One of my favorite design features is the intricate jaali work, inspired by the traditional lattice screens found in Rajasthan’s palaces and havelis. These ornate patterns not only provide shade and privacy, but also create a mesmerizing interplay of light and shadow, adding depth and character to the spaces. Another remarkable element is the hand-painted frescoes and murals, crafted by skilled local artisans. These artworks draw from Jaipur’s royal history and folklore, narrating tales of valor, romance, and tradition. The detailing in each piece pays homage to the centuries-old art forms that continue to thrive in the region.
The use of Makrana marble, the same marble used in the Taj Mahal, adds an unmistakable touch of regal elegance. The marble is intricately inlaid with semiprecious stones, a craft perfected by Rajasthan’s artisans over generations. Additionally, the grand archways and domes are inspired by Jaipur’s iconic palaces, lending an air of royal opulence to the property. Beyond architecture, Raffles Jaipur’s décor brings together handwoven textiles, intricate carpets, and locally crafted furniture, ensuring that every space tells a story of Rajasthan artistic excellence. The ambiance, enhanced by curated fragrances and soft lighting, transports guests to a world of refined luxury, where heritage meets contemporary comfort.

WW: When you’re not at the hotel, how do you like to enjoy Jaipur?
BS: Jaipur is such a beautiful city, with so much to offer beyond the hotels! If I were to explore the city or spend my time, I’d enjoy a mix of culture, history, food, and nature. I’d go to the City Palace—a beautiful blend of Mughal and Rajasthani architecture. The museums and courtyards are perfect for diving into Jaipur’s royal history. I’d spend hours exploring its nooks and crannies. Next, Amber Fort—another iconic spot! The stunning architecture, the views from the fort. Definitely one of the best places to appreciate Jaipur’s grandeur. I’d go for Jaipur local shopping—Jaipur is a shopper’s paradise! Whether it’s the vibrant bazaars like Johari Bazaar (known for jewelry) or Bapu Bazaar (for textiles and handicrafts), I’d be hunting for colorful fabrics, traditional Rajasthani attire, and beautiful trinkets. The shopping experience is so lively and full of character.I’d also take the Jhalana Leopard Safari—a unique experience! It’s exciting to spot leopards in their natural habitat. Jhalana is known for its rich wildlife and is a great way to get closer to nature. Visit Johari Restaurant, the perfect spot to experience traditional Rajasthani food. The ambiance adds to the experience, and dishes like dal baati churma and laal maas are must-tries. And polo matches—my new love! Jaipur has a strong polo culture, and watching a match is thrilling. The atmosphere, the horses, and the skill involved make it such an exciting sport to enjoy.
