Georges Bergès Gallery opened its SoHo flagship store last week on June 11. Located at 462 West Broadway, the gallery held a special opening that attracted over 800 people, including Susan Sarandon, Omar Hernandez, and George Wayne, and Richard DuPont. The SoHo space is the first in a network of galleries around the world Bergès hopes to connect. “For the first time my galleries will democratize the art world by allowing the global community, to take part in deciding who the next artistic superstar is. And to me, the more Bangkok, Shanghai, and Mexico City have a voice, the better the art will be,” he said. A big focus of the gallery’s program will be emerging artists, both on the primary and secondary market.
The inaugural show displayed the work of artists Michael Haffta, Shuishi Lio, Sania Teymeny, and Kristin Jai Klosterman. The second floor of the gallery is designed as a private salon; providing a broad platform for artists and collectors to gather and socialize. “Not only will this invigorate the market and encourage creativity, but at the individual gallery level, my salon approach will bring artists and their collectors into a closer personal relationship, enhancing true appreciation of the creative impulse,” Bergès said.
