New York cult brand MZ Wallace has collaborated with artist Glenn Ligon to create a limited edition carryall. The bag fuses the brand’s quilted nylon Metro Tote with the print from Ligon’s piece Untitled (I Am Somebody). All proceeds from the design will go to benefit the educational programs at the Studio Museum in Harlem. The choice seems fitting since the space has featured Ligon’s work in five exhibitions in the last seven years, houses his work Untitled (Speech-Crowd) #3 in its permanent collection, and awarded him the Joyce Alexander Wein Artist Prize in 2009. MZ Wallace, headed by Monica Zwirner (longtime fashion stylist and wife of gallerist David Zwirner) and Lucy Wallace Eustice (a veteran of the editorial and design worlds) is set to launch the bag on November 1. However, if you simply can’t wait, the tote is available for preorder for $225 on both the MZ Wallace and Studio Museum websites.
