GucciFest Introduces New Collection through Virtual Film Festival

Launching the festival today, we saw Episode 1: At Home aired on the house’s Instagram and YouTube accounts, as well as through the online GucciFest hub. Co-directed by Gus Van Sant and Gucci’s Creative Director Alessandro Michele, the film series features the actress, performer, and artist Silvia Calderoni. Shot in Rome, the series captures Calderoni through a surreal lens, going about daily routines in the city and encountering friends of the house like Billie Eilish, Harry Styles, Achille Bonito Oliva, and Florence Welch.

Today’s 18-minute episode followed Calderoni around her homeplace, giving cameos of the day and who she interacted with, featuring various garments from the new collection. Through scenarios like a band rehearsal, watching television, and Calderoni leaving the house, we caught a glimpse of several new pieces in action—like a sheer lace garment, a statement top in a tiny “g” print, bell-bottomed plaid trousers, a pastel beaded gown, and a pink bonnet with a chin strap. The following episodes will unfold the rest of the collection through daily installments like In the Café, The Neighbours, and A Nightly Walk.

Additionally, the house is presenting a series of fashion films by different directors, which showcase the work of emerging designers. Today saw the release of Samona Olanipekun’s Joy, which highlights the designs of Priya Ahluwalia through a story celebrating Black existence, and Collina Land, a film by Charlie Engman in collaboration with designer Hillary Taymour’s brand Collina Strada. Virtual attendees at GucciFest can also expect to see the designs of international brands like Rui, Gui Rosa, Bianca Saunders, Mowalola, Rave Review, Cormio, Jordanluca, Shanel Campbell, and more, showcased in film works throughout the following week.
