Hans Ulrich Obrist will speak alongside various artists including boychild, Simon Castets, and Meg Cranston on the use of Instagram in the art world to illustrate and express individual artistic practices at the Million Dollar Theatre in Los Angeles on July 26, 2014, to kick-off ForYourArt’s new website redesign.
ForYourArt is an online source that works to advance, support, and foster a culture of dialogue by perceiving all media, sites, and relationships as potential for artistic transformation. With this event, their new medium focus is Instagram, a social media platform that has permeated itself into the art world as a new medium of expression.

The updated and mobile optimized web redesign, named Guide ForYourArt, will have various new features including “WWW,” a section dedicated to art online, virtual billboards, events separated by neighborhood with an “add to calendar” tool for planning and a filtered “classifieds.”
Obrist is the Co-Director, Exhibitions and Programmes, and Director of International Projects Serpentine Gallery, London. Before this, he was Curator of the Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville, Paris and has co-curated over 250 exhibitions working with artists such as Ai Weiwei, Yoko Ono, and Rem Koolhaus.

Discussions at the event will also center on the validity and importance of Instagram, whether or not it is a personal, social, or artistic space and who to follow. Other participants include Kevin McGarry, Ryder Ripps, Frances Stark, Michel Gaubert, Alex Israel, Niko Karamyan, and Rachel Lord.
