Last night, Independent Curators International hosted their 2014 Annual Benefit & Auction at New York’s Cunard Building downtown. Over 300 guests including John Gordon Gauld, Zoe Buckman, Martha Wilson, Richard Armstrong, Pippa Cohen, RoseLee Goldberg, and Massimiliano Gioni came out to support the organization’s global network of curators, artists, and art spaces.
Agnes Gund, the ICI Trustee Emerita, honored Dimitris Daskalopoulos with the 2014 Leo Award for his visionary approach to collecting and his work in establishing NEON, a non-profit organization that provides access to Greeks to contemporary culture. Deputy Director Nancy Spector of the Guggenheim awarded Eva Barois De Caevel with the Independent Vision Curatorial Award, which recognizes rising curatorial talent.
A live auction held during dinner was led by Sotheby’s auctioneer Gabriela Palmieri and included lots by John Baldessari, Kerstin Bratsch, Oscar Tuazon, and experiences with Andres Serrano, Wangechi Mutu, and the Fondazione Prada in Venice.
Other works by Marina Abramovic, Derrick Adams, Lucky DeBellevue, Heeseop Yoon and more were donated to the silent auction, powered by Artsy.
Jung Lee and Josh Brooks of Fête designed the space for the event around the venue’s history, while Cipriani provided the dinner and cocktails. Stephen Petronio Company gave a special performance at the after party.
