To give you an insider look at Miami for your stay during Art Basel, we’re talking to those in-the-know. Here, artist Alexander Mijares shares his favorite spots to dine, drink, relax, and see art.
WHERE TO EAT AND SIP
For healthy and quick, I love going to Carrot Express and Pura Vida. They have great wraps, bowls, and acai! I love going to Le Chick in Wynwood with friends for a great ambience and music. The style is beautiful. For coffee and small talk, and a great vibe and decor, Brothers and Brawlers in Wynwood. For date night or a fun dinner with friends, I love going to Casa Tua, KYU, Phuc Yea, Mrs. Mandolin, and Noa Café. For drinks, I like Soho House, Le Chick, Lagniappe, and Casa Tua.
WHERE TO SEE ART
I love getting on my vintage bike and cruising around Wynwood. All the new and old murals are great! They are constantly painting new ones, so I love seeing them. I enjoy going to Gary Nader Gallery—amazing collection of all my favorite artists. But in Miami, everything is art!
WHERE TO HAVE FUN AND RELAX
The beach is my spot! I love going to the beach or being on a boat every weekend. Usually, I’ll go to Soho House, 1 Hotel South Beach, W South Beach, or just hang on Third Street Beach with the locals.
