Basel Insider Tips: Christos Rheinbrand, Peter Knogl, and Delphine de Causans

Whitewaller turned to the experts for the best of Basel. Below you’ll find insider tips from Bar Rouge bartender Christos Rheinbrand, Chef de Cuisine at Cheval Blanc, Peter Knogl, and art collector Delphine de Causans.

WHERE TO EAT AND SIP
Of course, at Bar Rouge. The drinks are amazing and the view over the city from the 31st floor is blissful. Come and say hello when you visit us.

WHERE TO SEE ART
I especially enjoy the Fondation Beyeler, as they manage to show a broad variety of modern and contemporary artists. I am especially intrigued by the exhibition at the Cartoonmuseum, and the Kunstmuseum—a classic—is always worth a Sunday stroll.

WHERE TO HAVE FUN AND RELAX
To relax, I prefer to go to sole uno spa and then for a walk in the old city and bar hopping. Many of my friends are bartenders in Basel, and I’m always intrigued to taste their new creations.

PETER KNOGL

WHERE TO EAT AND SIP
I like to go to Tapas del Mar, which is located right in the heart of the city on Spalenberg. I order tapas and feel connected to one of my favorite destinations—Spain.

WHERE TO SEE ART
I prefer to go to the Fondation Beyeler—the gallery is not far away from my home. With its building by Renzo Piano and its stunning permanent exhibition, it’s my favorite museum in Basel. Not to mention the outstanding temporary exhibitions they are regularly showing.

WHERE TO HAVE FUN AND RELAX
After the fair week, I treat myself to a weekend in Barcelona, and enjoy the views of the city as well as a nice meal and a cool drink in the restaurant Mont Bar.

DELPHINE DE CAUSANS

WHERE TO EAT AND SIP
Dive into the multiple layers of Chez Donati’s world-famous chocolate tiramisu or have a bratwurst
in the fair courtyard while enjoying the early summer sunshine. At night, the place to be is Les Trois
Rois. Everyone gathers to sip cocktails and talk about art.

WHERE TO SEE ART
Art Basel has always been one of my favorite art fairs. The quality of the artworks on display
is breathtaking. This year, I look forward to seeing the Theaster Gates exhibition at the
Kunstmuseum Basel. And as in year’s past, I’ll go to the Renzo Piano–designed Fondation
Beyeler. My favorite room is the one where Water Lilies by Monet is installed.

WHERE TO HAVE FUN AND RELAX
After the craziness of Art Basel, I enjoy a nice massage and spa day at the Elements Thai Spa.
For those who get a chance to stay longer in Switzerland, I recommend a day trip to Zürich to
visit some of the world’s finest galleries.

SAME AS TODAY
