Baselworld 2017 (March 23-30) is off to a show-stopping start, with new pieces in the spotlight for their elevated detail and technological prowess. Each year, the international watch show presents standout timepieces, and Jaquet Droz earlier this week kicked off its novelties debut with a watch that celebrates the change of season.
The established Swiss watchmaker has presented two new models of the Petite Heure Minute Relief Seasons—a stunning piece that portrays the beauty of spring and summer. Inspired by the natural world and the Jura landscape, the decorative art and mastery of the house is seen in a variety of unique ways. Flowers and birds are delicately crafted, showing immense attention to detail in spectacular colors. The two versions, dedicated to spring and summer, are creative and ornamental, with an off-centered hours and minutes dial. Carved from gold and painted by hand, the watch also shows the iridescence of fragile mother-of-pearl. For spring, we see two pairs of birds are seen in the background, specially set underneath the sapphire crystal dome–designed to enhance a 3-D effect, contrasting nicely with a gray satin strap. For summer, sunflowers face the sun, echoed by a red gold case and hands, and see the encasement enhanced by a chocolate-brown alligator strap.
