It was a lively time at New York’s Russian Tea Room last night, to honor artist Daniel Arsham and choreographer Jonah Bokaer at Chez Bushwick’s 2015 gala. Guests were welcomed into the music box-themed event by masked dancers, tasty hors d’oeuvres, and signature cocktails by Tracy Stern Tea & Co as they awaited dinner and live performances, including a solo performance by Bokaer himself.
Arsham, a New York-based artist, started collaborating with Bokaer after being introduced by legendary choreographer Merce Cunningham. The two began to work together over the past eight years combining skills of visual art and performance. Their collaborations have been shown at New Museum, Lincoln Center, Jacob’s Pillow Dance, The Arscht Center, IVAM, the Hellenic Festival, Rotterdamse Schouwburg, and at the Festival d’Avignon.
Last night, guests like Claire Distenfeld, Michèle Gerber Klein, Tracy Stern, Kenneth Alpert, Paulina Berlin, Sari Bibliowicz, Alison Chemla, Beth Rudin DeWoody, Alexander Gorlin, Sean & Mary Kelly, and Melo-X were treated to a surprise announcement of a collaborative project between Arsham, Bokaer, and Pharrell Williams in 2016.
