The magic island of Ibiza is not just a party destination. It is a place where visitors can enjoy wandering through the market, strolling through small yet stunning villages, getting a tan on natural beaches, and biking and yachting to Formentera.
For those of you enjoying what is left of the summer in Ibiza, here’s what we recommend.
WHAT TO SEE
One of the best exhibitions everyone is talking about is the Keith Haring show that opened on July 1, presented by Lio Malca at La Nave Salinas, an old salt warehouse built in the 1940s. Malca, who is a patron and art collector, acquired the site a few years ago and Haring is his third installation there.
Don’t miss the 12-panel installation composed by Lebanese artist Walid Raad at Parra & Romero. Raad blurs the boundaries between fiction and reality, fantasy and history. Also on view is the work of Nancy Holt, known for her land art. Both exhibitions are about the interplay between light and shadow.
The Lune Rouge, owned by Cirque du Soleil founder Guy Laliberté, hosts an amazing contemporary art collection. There the work is featured in tandem with Art Projects Ibiza, whose philanthropic mission is to develop educational events and to represent both well-known and emerging artists. Right now is a show of Cory Arcangel and Olia Lialina who met in 2001. “Asymmetrical Response” is the result of their first collaboration, which can be read, seen, interpreted as a reflection on the power of media and devices.
Charlene Vanneste is a French-Balinese emerging artist to watch whose work will be soon on view at La Maison de l’Elephant, the art and design four-story store. She found her very own personal style somewhere in between street art, urban art and graffiti. She’s had a few promising shows in Miami and New York. As for now, she has been tasked to customize an entire private villa in Cala Jondal.
WHERE TO EAT AND SIP
Amante Ibiza is a hidden gem for those who like a wild, beautiful beach where you can have lunch and enjoy art events such as the award-winning Amante Movie Night that will be happening this year on August 29, showing All About My Mother by Pedro Almodovar.
The most beautiful spot to see the sunset sipping cocktail and grabbing bites is the Experimental Beach. We also recommend: Bar Restaurante Es Cubbels, MO Ibiza, El Chiringuito, El Macao Café, Cami de Balafia, and Es Xarcu.
WHERE TO STAY
The Nobu Hotel which opened last June and The Gran Hotel.
